First GPHIL post

While I was reading the Allegory of the Cave for class, I was kind of freaked out and began thinking how disturbing it is that the influence that the beliefs of the media and peers can be so strong that they can "chain" us down and can actually impact our freedom. However, after thinking about it and after some class discussion, I have come to the conclusion that there are enough people expressing different beliefs and enough sources showing different view points that I am not chained down in my freedom of thought and beliefs. While I am not so naive as to believe that media and society has no impact on my world view whatsoever, I also think that as long as people research whats really going on in the world and don't just take what we hear in the news and read in the newspaper and believe it without questioning it then we have the power to find out the truth we just have to put in the effort.
